Our Rector
I'm
Mike Keirle and I have been Rector since
2003. I am married to Emma and we have two teenage children, James and Sarah.
Originally from St. Albans, I worked in agricultural research in Harpenden and then with homeless people in Leeds before training for the ministry in Bristol.
I served my Curacy in Orpington and went on to be Rector of St. Paul's, Marlborough in Harare, Zimbabwe until I returned to the UK in 1995. I am still involved in working with children in Zimbabwe through the Charity
'The Just Children Foundation' and am Chairman of the UK Trustees.
Before moving to Guernsey, I was Rector of Keston Parish Church in Kent. Since moving to the Channel Islands, I have developed a passion for sea kayaking and scallops! I enjoys photography, mineral collecting and I'm on the Channel Island Air Search Crew.
Our Honorary Assistant Curate
I have been Assistant Priest at St. Martin's Parish Church since 1996. As a child I was brought up in the Parish. I am husband to Sue, a teacher and father of three grown up children, Amy, Rosieand Dave, who all live in London.
I am currently working on developing the Caritas Charity, which works with uyoung people in difficulty in the Island. We have a market garden project and work closely with other agencies such as the probation and community service agencies.
I enjoy making pilgrimages to remote places and do so by foot, bike, hitching, swimming or other creative ways. Cycling, swimming and lying down are some of my favourite activities.
Our Lay Reader
Hi, I'm Jim Williams, the licenced Reader at our Church. I've been attending St. Martin's since I was a child. I was licenced in 2005 after three years of training.
I am married to Pam, who is our Church Secretary and involved in our children's work. We have two married daughters and four grandchildren.
My fulltime paid occupation in the administration department of a large Law Firm means that I meet a wide variety of people during the week.
Our Church Secretary
Hi I’m Pam, married to Jim our Lay Reader for forty years. My work as Church Secretary involves various administrative duties but I am also one of the leaders for the 3-7 year olds in our Sunday Group, which I have been involved with for 25 years and help at the SMASH CLUB at St Martin’s School. I work part time as Office Manager for a Chartered Building Surveyors Practise.
Our People's Churchwarden
Hello, I’m Vic Martin, People's Churchwarden since 2004 and part of my job is looking after the fabric of the Church and Rectory on behalf of the parishioners of St. Martin's, who own the buildings. I have attended St Martin's Church all my life and take part in many duties within our church.
I am married to Joyce and have two adult daughters. Now that I am retired, having worked as a carpenter in the building trade, I now have more time to enjoy our garden, and having the occasional holiday.
Our Rector's Churchwarden
My name is Dave Hughes and I became Rector's Warden in 2007 and have worshipped at St. Martin's for 21 years. My wife, Chris, is a children's group leader and wehave six grown up children of our own and three grandchildren.
Originally from Birmingham, I trained in health service management in the north east of England and have just retired as Chief Officer of the Guernsey Health and Social Services Department.
Having a large family means that we don't get much leisure time but I enjoy gardening and walking and I'm researching both our family trees.
